1994 was a very special year for RUD. IBACH SOHN, the company celebrated "200 years Ibach piano-production". This event let them decide to renew an old tradition: to develope extraordinary piano cases. Ibach started to rebuild 3 historical designes in a limited edition. They also made contact with the American architect Richard Meier. They had the idea to create a new instrument, which shouldn’t just sound outstanding, it was also supposed to reflect the way of art at present time by the way it looks. At the end of 1994 they also started to systemise the very well preserved family and company archive.
During 1995 Richard Meier designed his Ibach
grand piano and at the same time because of the build up of the archive,
Ibach realised in never suspected ways about the cooperation between the
company, artists and architects, in order to built artistic designed instruments.
One might be wondering why they especialy
choosed architekts, but they were supposed to be the first people to fight
for the business of arts.
IBACH knew exactly how to create instruments
of different tastes and perfect for each time and sometimes even worked
with totaly different and in their artistic way being far apart partners,
at the same time.
Well organised PR work and taking parts in
exhibitions made IBACH well known, which again verified the unmisleading
continuation of this strategy. Besides of the „normal“ production, IBACH
also produces special editions, like individual pianos, mini series and
special series.
Those special edititons had their glory days
between 1873 and 1914. Infact the time of special editions has already
begun in 1851 and has continued until now.
Those architekts and artists who were asked
to work together, were sometimes not known at all, sometimes one of the
bests of their time. Specialised people at the IBACH factory also formed
many creations. For example: Mr. Winkler, an architekt who worked for IBACH
for almost 25 years. The impulse of working together sometimes came from
IBACH but also very often the architekts and artists went to IBACH to offer
them their work and knowledge.
